CONFERENCE HOTEL
The Benson Portland, Curio Collection by Hilton
309 SW Broadway,
Portland, OR 97205
The historic Benson Hotel (1913) is located in downtown Portland, a short walk from the Pearl District and from Waterfront Park along the Willamette River. The hotel even includes a Stairwell Museum, featuring photos and stories of Portland landmarks lining a 12-story marble stairwell.
Individuals can make reservations at: https://group.curiocollection.com/q9au5p using the Group Name: Society for Industrial Archaeology 2022 Annual Meeting. The group room rate is $195 per night.
The highlight of dining at The Benson is El Gaucho, an elegant steakhouse located just next door. For all day dining, the hotel also offers The Palm Court restaurant in the lobby, featuring locally sourced produce. With its downtown location, there are also lots of local restaurants in the area, ranging from food carts to fine dining.
Only a few blocks from most public transit, the hotel’s location makes getting around town easy. The Orange and Green MAX lines are two blocks away to the east, the Red and Blue lines are four blocks south, and the Streetcar lines are three blocks west. Given this location, visitors are encouraged to skip the traffic and take public transit as much as possible.
Traveling to Portland
AIRLINE TRAVEL – The award-winning Portland International Airport (PDX) is located about 12 miles northeast of the conference hotel. The airport is served by many domestic airlines, though Alaska Airlines provides the most flights regionally. Ongoing construction at the airport may require longer walks than usual.
The MAX Red line runs directly from the airport to downtown Portland (get off at the Pioneer Square stop and walk 4 blocks north to get to the hotel). Ride share services and rental car facilities are also available at the airport.
RAIL TRAVEL – Amtrak’s Portland Union Station is a historic station detailed with terra cotta and molded brick. It is served by Amtrak Cascades from Seattle, the Coast Starlight from Los Angeles, and the Empire Builder from Chicago. The station is a short Streetcar ride from the hotel.
